Colonies keep popping up on the map. I understand that the are puppet nations and thus basically augment the prime nation (in both military and economy) but I have a few questions regarding them:
1. Is there a limit to them? Can I just have 10 different colonies and thus double or triple my population?
2. Is there a limit to the "size"(i include here the military, GDP and population)?

I think that there should be a maximum of 1. The region is growing significantly, and if we're just gonna be claiming colonies all over the place (Northern Kingdom already has 4 colonies, and wants even more), there won't be any significant map space for any new member to want.

Colonies are perfectly fine so long as they remain just that: colonies. So no, you can't double triple your population with them - their population must be lower than that of the homeland's by a significant factor.
I realize there were exceptions to this in real life (Britain and India, France and Indochina), but for the sake of fairness there must be a reasonable limit.

I'm with Rutthenia on this one. There should be strict limits on this practice.
Those are not colonies as in India or Indochina, they are simply entities that are controlled by the same player. The are more akin to counties(of the master country) than countries.

So, to claim colonies, does one need a puppet nation? Like if I were to make colonies would I need to create Gott im Himmel Colonial Territories Colonial Territories?

No, you don't need to add a puppet for colonies if you don't want to. Gott im Himmel Colonial Territories Colonial Territories just doesn't quite roll off the tongue, haha.
In any case, I don't want players significantly augmenting their stats through puppets or colonies. Puppetwank is not acceptable on the NS Forum and I don't really want it here.

My colonies are independent territories, but recognize the Queen Dowager as their monarch (just like Australia). And I'll settle with what I have.
